Welcome to Forest School. We are really lucky to have a fully qualified Forest School practitioner at our school. All children will have the opportunity to have a number of forest school lessons each year, and also to use the outdoor resources during free play. We love learning outdoors!

Forest School is a long-term process of regular weekly sessions.
Forest School takes place in a woodland or natural environment to develop a lifelong relationship between the learner and the natural world.
Forest School encourages children to take risks.
Forest School aims to promote holistic development: resilience, confidence, independence and creativity.
Forest School has to be run by a qualified Forest School practitioner.

Here at Lawrence View we use our woodland area within the school grounds. We are very fortunate to have a large green space with newly planted trees. We encourage children to be out in all weathers with the appropriate clothing.

This includes:

Waterproofs
Comfortable trousers(joggers)
T-shirt, light and long sleeved
Jumper
Fleecy jacket
One pair of socks
Wellies
Depending on what time of year, it can vary what the child may need, e.g. sun hat during summer and hat, gloves and scarves during winter.

We have many of these items in school as 'spares' however we encourage children to bring their own for each session.

During the Forest School sessions, we will take part in a lot of different activities.

These may include:

Natural artwork
Making music
Obstacle course

Building Mud faces on trees
Clay mini beasts
Fairy tag

Stick Towers
Team games
Mini beast hunts

Barefoot walking
Making natural crowns
Making flags

Scavenger Hunts
Den building
Using tools

As the children take part in the above activities, we hope to encourage the children to develop a range of skills:

Independence
Imagination
Risk taking
Initiate learning
Develop lifelong skills
Be healthy
Encourage well-being
To enjoy and achieve
Be creative
Gain confidence
