School return update

As promised, I am writing to provide an update on school reopening in June. At present we have still be given very little information regarding this, but school have been asked to plan for the children’s return in a phased approach from possibly the 1st June, if it is safe to do so. All dates given are provisional based on scientific evidence. We have all missed the children and are looking forward to returning to some sort of normality. Safety for all is our priority.

The current arrangement for pupils of parents of keyworkers and vulnerable pupils (as classified by the government), will remain until the end of the summer term. We at present have not had any confirmation as to whether school will remain open for these children throughout the summer break.

The return to school on the 1st of June is for some school pupils starting with Foundation, years 1 and 6. This is to be done in a phased way, but we are unsure what this will look like at present. Children will be taught in smaller classes to reduce social interaction with others and enable as much social distancing as possible. Those who are unwell will not be able to attend and testing will be available for staff and pupils with symptoms. We will let parents have further details nearer the time.

Once the government say it is happy that it is safe to do so, the remaining children will be invited back into school on a phased return. It is hoped that all children will have at least 4 weeks of the remaining term in school.

As each class returns the teachers will cease sending distance learning home. This is because teachers will need to prepare and teach the children in school.

We are really looking forward to seeing you all again. However, I know that some of you will feel uncomfortable about your children returning to school for several reasons, from safety to siblings not attending and we understand this. Thorough risk assessments will be undertaken. We will follow the guidance given and try our best to maintain social distancing as much as we can. We are asked to encourage all children to return once safe to do so. In order to support us with our planning we are sending an online questionnaire out to parents shortly via text message.

I hope that this provides some clarity on the intended plans so far. We will continue to update you once we have more information to share.

Keep safe and take care

Kind regards

Emma McGrenaghan
