Year 2 is going to be a year filled with wonder, curiosity and adventure! We have so many exciting topics and experiences planned, giving children opportunities to explore the world around them, ask questions, develop new skills and discover just how much they are capable of.

In History, we will travel back in time to discover the incredible story of the first human to land on the Moon, before stepping further back in time to uncover the events of the Great Fire of London. In Geography, we will investigate human and physical features, exploring our local area before taking a closer look at the seaside region of Cleethorpes. We will also discover the world’s continents, with a special focus on Africa. Our learning will come to life through exciting experiences, including a trip to the beach and our very own Africa Day, where we will celebrate African culture, traditions and our learning together.

In RE, we will develop our understanding of Christianity and Judaism, exploring beliefs, celebrations, traditions and what these religions mean to the people who follow them. Throughout the year, we will also broaden our horizons by discovering more about a range of other religions and cultures, developing respect and understanding for the diverse world we live in.

Our Science learning will encourage children to become curious investigators as they explore materials, plants, habitats and different climates. In Design and Technology, children will get creative and practical, developing their skills through stitching, designing and creating structures.

Our PSHE curriculum will help children develop important skills for life. We will explore money, personal hygiene, online safety and how to keep ourselves and others safe, alongside learning about our emotions, relationships and how our feelings can affect the way we behave. Children will be encouraged to develop strategies for managing their emotions, making positive choices and becoming increasingly independent.

Throughout Year 2, we will provide children with opportunities to think creatively, work collaboratively, solve problems, try new things and learn from their mistakes. Alongside building their knowledge and skills across the curriculum, we will nurture their confidence, resilience, independence and kindness.

Across the year, children will have countless opportunities to ask questions, solve problems, be creative and make connections between their learning and the world around them. Year 2 will be a year of personal growth, where children will be encouraged to become increasingly independent, resilient, kind and confident learners (as guided by our school vision and LEAF Values) who are excited to discover what they can achieve.
