Ofsted Reports and Performance Data
At the end of Key Stage 2 (Year 6), pupils across England take National Curriculum tests, commonly known as SATs (Standard Assessment Tests). These assessments provide information about how well pupils have achieved the expected standard for their age and help secondary schools understand pupils' attainment as they move into Key Stage 3. SATs are administered nationally and measure attainment in Reading, Mathematics and Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (GPS), while Writing is assessed by teachers against national assessment frameworks.
The results are reported using a scaled score, where a score of 100 represents the expected standard. Pupils may also achieve the higher standard in Reading and Mathematics or Greater Depth in Writing if they demonstrate particularly strong attainment. Alongside individual pupil outcomes, schools publish the percentage of pupils achieving the expected standard in Reading, Writing and Mathematics combined, enabling comparisons with national performance.
SATs form one part of a school's assessment information and are used alongside teachers' ongoing assessments, classroom learning and wider achievements to provide a rounded picture of pupil progress and attainment.
