Curriculum

At Lawrence View Primary and Nursery School, our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to be enriching, challenging, and inclusive. It aims to expose children to wider world issues and experiences, helping them grow into confident, curious, and compassionate global citizens.

We are proud to hold externally validated Quality Marks in Science, History, Geography, PE and Games, Personal Development, Thinking Skills, and Music—a testament to our commitment to excellence across the curriculum.

Our Motto and Values

Our school motto, ‘Learn, Grow and Achieve’, is the foundation of everything we do. It is underpinned by our five core values:

  • Resilience
  • Aspiration
  • Curiosity
  • Respect
  • Kindness

These values are woven into every aspect of school life and form the basis of our curriculum with reading at its heart.

A Curriculum for the Whole Child

We believe in nurturing the whole child, academically, socially, and emotionally. Our curriculum equips pupils with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to become happy, healthy, and fulfilled individuals who are ready to embrace the future with confidence, regardless of their background.

We offer a wide range of experiences that empower children, build self-esteem, and enrich their wellbeing and cultural capital.

Core Skills at the Centre

Our curriculum is built around three sets of core skills that underpin all learning:

Active Learning

  • Seeking out and enjoying challenges
  • Collaborating effectively with others
  • Showing commitment and perseverance
  • Reflecting on their own and others’ progress

Basic Skills

  • Speaking clearly and confidently
  • Reading and writing with purpose and clarity
  • Applying mathematical skills to solve problems
  • Using technology effectively and responsibly

Creative Thinking

  • Asking thoughtful questions and deepening understanding
  • Generating ideas and exploring possibilities
  • Overcoming barriers with flexible thinking
  • Connecting ideas and experiences in inventive ways

Planning for Progress

When designing learning experiences, we begin by identifying the curriculum content and the ‘knowledge’ we want children to retain. Our curriculum is rooted in the 2014 National Curriculum, ensuring coverage, progression, and depth across all subjects.

Working Together

We are committed to working in partnership with parents, governors, and our local community to provide the very best educational experiences. Together, we strive to enhance every child’s learning journey and support their development in a warm, respectful, and caring environment.

Teaching for Learning

Building a curriculum to support the learning and  development of children is at the heart of what we do. Recent research is used to support this in school.
