Foundation Stage

"Children are not things to be moulded, but people to be unfolded."
Jess Lair

At Lawrence View Primary and Nursery School, we believe that the Early Years Foundation Stage provides the foundations for a lifetime of learning. Our vision is to ensure that every child develops the knowledge, skills, confidence and attitudes they need to Learn, Grow and Achieve.

We recognise that children learn best when they feel safe, valued and inspired. Our nurturing and stimulating environment enables children to develop strong relationships, explore their interests and become confident, independent learners. Guided by our values of Respect, Curiosity, Aspiration, Resilience and Kindness, we support every child to flourish academically, socially and emotionally.

Building Strong Foundations-The early years are a crucial stage in a child's development. Our curriculum is carefully designed around the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and informed by the latest research into child development and learning. We place a strong emphasis on developing secure foundations in communication and language, early reading, writing and mathematics, alongside personal, social and emotional development.

Through purposeful play, adult-led learning and meaningful first-hand experiences, children develop the knowledge, vocabulary and skills that will support future success throughout their school journey.

Learning Through Exploration-We believe that children are naturally curious and learn best through exploration, investigation and discovery. Our well-planned indoor and outdoor environments provide rich opportunities for children to play, create, problem-solve and develop their understanding of the world around them.

High-quality interactions from skilled practitioners help children deepen their thinking, extend their vocabulary and build their confidence as learners.

Communication, Language and Early Reading-Developing strong communication and language skills is at the heart of our curriculum. Children are immersed in a language-rich environment where storytelling, conversations, songs, rhymes and high-quality texts foster a love of language and learning.

Early reading is developed through a systematic approach to phonics, ensuring that children gain the knowledge and confidence needed to become successful readers. We work closely with families to support reading at home and encourage a lifelong love of books.

Working in Partnership-We recognise that parents and carers are children's first educators and value the strong partnerships we build with families. By working together, we ensure that every child feels supported, celebrated and ready to thrive.

Our aim is that every child leaves the Foundation Stage as a happy, confident and capable learner, equipped with the strong foundations needed for future success and excited about the opportunities that lie ahead.
