At Lawrence View Primary and Nursery School, Religious Education plays an important role in helping children understand themselves, others and the diverse world in which they live. Through RE, pupils develop respect, curiosity and empathy while exploring a wide range of religious and non-religious worldviews.

Our curriculum is based on the Nottinghamshire Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education and encourages pupils to ask questions, think critically and reflect on important aspects of human experience. Children learn about Christianity and other principal world religions, as well as non-religious worldviews, developing an understanding of the beliefs, practices, values and traditions that shape people's lives.

RE provides opportunities for pupils to explore questions about identity, belonging, meaning, purpose and morality. Through discussion, investigation and reflection, children develop the knowledge and skills needed to understand different perspectives and engage respectfully with the beliefs of others.

We place a strong emphasis on developing oracy within RE. Pupils are encouraged to discuss, debate and articulate their own views while listening carefully to the viewpoints of others. These opportunities help children build confidence as communicators and develop the critical thinking skills needed to navigate an increasingly diverse society.

Our RE curriculum supports pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and prepares them for life in modern Britain. By learning about different faiths and worldviews, children develop respect for diversity and an appreciation of the values that unite communities.

Through visits, visitors and first-hand experiences wherever possible, we bring learning to life and help pupils make meaningful connections between their studies and the wider world.
