Class reminders:

PE days are every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Spelling tests are every Thursday.

Times-table Challenge is every Thursday.

Reading diaries are checked on Fridays. If children have read five times or more for that week, they get entered into the reading raffle with a chance to win a book prize!

Autumn term

What changed in Britain from the stone age to the iron age?

Year 3 will step way, way, way back in time, by about 452,000 years, before written records began—back to when the earliest hunter-gatherers came to Britain from Europe around 450,000 BC and ending with the invasion of the Romans in AD 43.

We will expand on our learning by walking in the footsteps of early humans and woolly mammoths at Cresswell Crags. Year 3 will marvel at the Ice Age rock art still visible in the extraordinary caves.

Why do people go on holiday to Greece?

Have you ever dreamed of travelling across Europe? Have you ever wondered how life in sunny Greece compares to life in the UK? Or how maps, globes and compass points help us explore the world? In Year 3, we are going to become geographers as we journey across Europe, discovering different countries, capitals and landscapes, comparing our local area with Chania in Greece.

Spring term

Was everyone an Ancient Egyptian?

Have you ever wondered how the Ancient Egyptians mummified a human? Have you ever gazed at pictures of the pyramids and wanted to know more? Have you ever questioned, were the Egyptians the only ancient civilisation to build pyramids? In Year 3 we are going to delve back around 5000 years to explore the Ancient World.

Why is Iceland often called the land of Ice and Fire?

In Year 3, we are going to investigate this fascinating island, discovering how volcanoes, earthquakes and glaciers have shaped its landscape. We will explore the powerful forces of nature, learn how people live alongside them, and uncover what makes Iceland one of the most unique places on Earth.

Summer term

What links does Eastwood have to WW2?

Did you know that Eastwood has its own fascinating links to World War Two? In Year 3, we are going to become local historians as we investigate how the war affected our community, explore the stories of those who lived through it, and discover the inspiring legacy of Walter Tull, one of Britain's first Black Army officers.
