Welcome to the Governors' section of our website.

The Governing Board is proud to support and challenge school leaders to ensure that every pupil receives the highest quality education and the opportunity to flourish. Working closely with the Headteacher and staff, our role is to help shape the strategic direction of the school, monitor its effectiveness and hold leaders to account for the outcomes achieved by pupils.

Everything we do is guided by a simple principle: making decisions that are in the best interests of children. We are committed to promoting high expectations, safeguarding, inclusion and continuous improvement so that every pupil can succeed academically, socially and emotionally.

As governors, we value the views of pupils, parents, staff and the wider community and recognise the important role that strong partnerships play in creating a successful school.

Who Are the Governors?

The Governing Board is made up of individuals from a range of professional and community backgrounds who bring valuable knowledge, skills and experience to support the school.

Our governors include:

• Parent Governors
• Co-opted Governors
• Staff Governors
• Local Authority Governors

Together, governors provide strategic leadership and oversight, ensuring that the school remains focused on achieving the very best outcomes for all pupils.

What Do Governors Do?

Governors are responsible for the strategic leadership of the school.

Their role is not to manage the day-to-day running of the school. This is the responsibility of the Headteacher and school leaders. Instead, governors work at a strategic level by:

Setting the Strategic Direction

Governors help establish the school's vision, values and long-term priorities.

Holding Leaders to Account

Governors monitor the school's performance and challenge leaders to ensure pupils achieve well and receive a high-quality education.

Overseeing Financial Performance

Governors ensure that the school's finances are managed effectively and that resources are used in a way that benefits pupils.

Monitoring Safeguarding

Governors ensure that safeguarding arrangements are effective and that pupils are kept safe.

Supporting Continuous Improvement

Governors monitor progress against the school's improvement priorities and evaluate the impact of decisions made by leaders.

How Governors Support the School

Governors do this by:

• Attending Governing Board and committee meetings.
• Reviewing pupil achievement and progress data.
• Monitoring attendance and behaviour.
• Evaluating safeguarding procedures.
• Visiting the school to see improvement priorities in action.
• Meeting with school leaders and staff.
• Speaking with pupils about their experiences of school.
• Reviewing policies and procedures.
• Ensuring statutory responsibilities are fulfilled.

Governors provide both support and challenge, acting as a critical friend to the school.

School Improvement Priorities

Governors work closely with leaders to monitor progress against the school's key priorities, which may include:

• Raising standards in reading, writing and mathematics.
• Improving attendance and punctuality.
• Promoting positive behaviour and attitudes to learning.
• Strengthening teaching and learning across the curriculum.
• Supporting pupils' wellbeing and mental health.
• Improving outcomes for disadvantaged pupils.
• Ensuring effective provision for pupils with SEND.
• Maintaining effective safeguarding arrangements.

Governors regularly review evidence of impact to ensure that improvement strategies are making a meaningful difference to pupils.

Governor Visits and Monitoring

To develop a better understanding of school life, governors regularly visit the school.

These visits may include:

• Learning walks.
• Meetings with subject leaders.
• Safeguarding checks.
• Attendance reviews.
• Curriculum monitoring.
• Discussions with pupils.
• Reviews of pupils' work.
• Participation in school events and celebrations.

Visits help governors gain valuable first-hand knowledge of the school's strengths and areas for development. They also allow governors to evaluate how strategic decisions affect pupils and staff.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and remains a key priority for the Governing Board.

Governors:

• Ensure safeguarding procedures meet statutory requirements.
• Monitor safeguarding policies and practices.
• Receive safeguarding training.
• Work closely with school leaders to promote a strong culture of safeguarding.
• Ensure pupils feel safe, supported and listened to.

The Governing Board is committed to maintaining a culture where safeguarding is effective and where the welfare of every child is paramount.

Attendance and Punctuality

Governors recognise the importance of excellent attendance and punctuality in helping pupils achieve their full potential.

The Governing Board regularly reviews attendance information and challenges leaders to ensure:

• High expectations are maintained.
• Barriers to attendance are identified and addressed.
• Families receive appropriate support.
• Improvement strategies have a positive impact.
• Every pupil benefits from the opportunities available at school.
