At Lawrence View Primary and Nursery School, we believe that education is about developing character as well as academic success. Our Character, Conduct and Community Curriculum equips children with the knowledge, skills and behaviours they need to become confident, respectful, resilient and responsible members of society.

Rooted in our vision to Learn, Grow and Achieve and our values of Respect, Curiosity, Aspiration, Resilience and Kindness, this curriculum explicitly teaches the behaviours, attitudes and habits that enable children to thrive both in school and beyond. We believe that positive behaviour, strong relationships and good conduct should be taught, modelled and practised, just like any other area of the curriculum. 

Ready, Respectful and Safe-Our school community is guided by three simple rules:

Be Ready. Be Respectful. Be Safe.

These expectations provide a consistent framework for behaviour across the school and help children understand how to make positive choices in the classroom, around school and within the wider community.

Developing Self-Regulation-We recognise that children need explicit teaching and support to understand and manage their emotions. Through the Zones of Regulation, pupils develop a shared language for recognising feelings, understanding how emotions affect behaviour and using appropriate strategies to regulate themselves.

Children learn to identify their emotions, understand triggers, develop coping strategies and build resilience when faced with challenges. Over time, they become increasingly independent in managing their behaviour, learning and wellbeing. 

A Relational and Restorative Approach-Our approach is strongly influenced by the work of Paul Dix, placing relationships at the heart of school life. We believe that every interaction matters and that positive relationships underpin successful learning and behaviour.

When difficulties arise, we use a restorative approach to help children reflect on their choices, understand the impact of their actions and repair relationships. Rather than simply focusing on consequences, we support pupils to take responsibility, learn from their mistakes and make positive changes moving forward. 

Building Character and Community-Through carefully planned learning experiences, pupils develop:

We place a strong emphasis on oracy, ensuring children can confidently express their thoughts, discuss ideas, explain their choices and resolve disagreements respectfully.

Preparing Children for Life-Our Character, Conduct and Community Curriculum supports pupils' personal development and prepares them for the opportunities and challenges of modern life. By the time they leave Lawrence View, we want every child to be a respectful, resilient and responsible individual who can regulate their emotions, build positive relationships, contribute to their community and thrive at the next stage of their education.
