Music
“Music is one of the most powerful things the world has to offer. No matter what race or religion or nationality that you are, it has the power to unite us.” Lady Gaga

At Lawrence View Primary and Nursery School, we believe that music is a powerful and enriching part of every child's education. Our aim is to foster a lifelong love of music by providing engaging, inclusive and inspiring musical experiences for all pupils.
Through our music curriculum, children develop their knowledge and understanding of a wide range of musical styles, traditions and cultures. They learn to listen carefully, sing confidently, perform with others and appreciate the role music plays in communities and societies around the world.
We place great importance on ensuring that all children have the opportunity to develop practical musical skills. Throughout their time at Lawrence View, every child has the opportunity to learn and perform on at least two different musical instruments, building confidence, musicianship and enjoyment. Pupils learn how to play both individually and as part of an ensemble, developing important skills such as teamwork, discipline and perseverance.
Our curriculum is carefully sequenced to develop pupils' musical knowledge and skills over time. Children learn to perform, compose, improvise and appraise music, whilst developing an understanding of musical vocabulary, notation and key musical concepts. They are encouraged to think creatively, express themselves confidently and reflect on their own musical development.
Music extends beyond the classroom through performances, celebrations and wider enrichment opportunities, allowing children to share their talents and experience the joy of performing for an audience. These experiences help to build confidence, resilience and a sense of achievement, whilst also contributing to children's wider personal development.
At Lawrence View, we want every child to leave primary school with a love of music, an appreciation of its power to bring people together, and the confidence to continue their musical journey beyond the classroom.
