Physical Education

“Sports teaches you character, it teaches you to play by the rules, it teaches you to know what it feels like to win and lose – it teaches you about life.” Billie Jean King

At Lawrence View Primary and Nursery School, we believe that physical education plays a vital role in supporting children's physical, social and emotional development. Our aim is to inspire a lifelong love of physical activity and sport, equipping pupils with the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead healthy, active lives.

Through a broad, ambitious and inclusive PE curriculum, children develop fundamental movement skills, physical competence and an understanding of how being active contributes to both physical and mental wellbeing. We encourage all pupils to challenge themselves, persevere when faced with difficulties and celebrate both individual and team successes.

Our curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure that pupils progressively develop skills across a range of sports and physical activities. Children learn to apply these skills in different contexts whilst developing teamwork, leadership, cooperation and sportsmanship. They are also taught the importance of fair play, respect and resilience, reflecting our school values of Respect, Curiosity, Aspiration, Resilience and Kindness.

Alongside curriculum PE lessons, we provide a wide range of enrichment opportunities, including competitive sport, festivals, clubs and sporting events. We are committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to participate, discover new interests and experience success in physical activity.

We want our pupils to understand that physical activity is about more than exercise; it supports positive mental health, builds confidence, develops character and promotes healthy lifestyle choices. By the time children leave Lawrence View, we aim for them to have the skills, knowledge and motivation to remain active and healthy throughout their lives.

As a school, we are proud of our commitment to high-quality physical education and the opportunities we provide for pupils to develop as confident, resilient and active individuals who are ready to Learn, Grow and Achieve.
